A Destination Wedding with Just 22 Guests: Tong & Calvin
There’s something immensely cheering about the real wedding that we’re sharing today, an intimate, pre-pandemic celebration in central Tuscany. It might be the sun-drenched outdoor spaces, the generous florals, or the incredible pink facade of the venue, Villa Vignamaggio, but something about this one really makes me smile. Then, of course, there’s the couple at the centre of the celebration, college sweethearts Tong and Calvin, who look so incredibly thrilled to be getting hitched! Dall’k Photography was on hand to capture their stylish destination wedding in Italy, and I’m so glad that they did, because these images are drop-dead stunning!
Calvin tells us that he met Tong when they were both studying for a masters degree in Paris, shortly after orientation! “Tong was urgently looking for someone who could fetch her back from the airport after meeting her parents. Those days, not many students had a car, and most didn’t have an international driving license, so it was difficult to find someone. I offered to help, and I guess fortune favours the prepared!
The couple tell us that their guests were their top priority in wedding planning. “From the first day of planning, we reached a consensus over this,” Tong says. “Our wedding was an opportunity to cherish moments well-spent with friends and family members who are usually scattered around the world, morseo than a traditional wedding where all spotlight falls on the newlyweds. With this in mind, the rest was just so easy to handle. We listed all the elements that would impact the comfort and convenience of our guests, and allocated the budget there first.”
Have you ever seen a happier bride!? Tong’s beautiful wedding-day look features a minimal gown with lace top overlay by Stephanie Wolff Paris, heels by San Marina, and a delicate hair accessory by Hot Wind.
We are barely able to cope with the delightful, rustic vibe of this ceremony space! I love how the couple’s planner dressed the courtyard with a super soft chiffon-draped ceremony arch, abundant greenery and florals inspired by the faded pinks of the Villa Vignamaggio.
It took Tong and Calvin no time at all to settle on a destination wedding in Italy. “Tuscany is one of our favourite places,” Calvin says. “Tong loves the Medici family and the Renaissance period, so we did our research in this region to get a rough idea of what the available options were. Then we picked our wedding planner, who had expertise and experience in the Tuscany region. She brought us to a venue that we loved at first sight – a charming estate in the middle of Tuscany with a 15th Century Renaissance-style villa.”
The couple decided to have just 22 guests join them for their celebrations. “It was the best decision to make this wedding intimate,” Tong says. “It made everything easier and helped everyone enjoy themselves. From preparation right up until the midnight karaoke, we felt relaxed, loved and blessed.”
The food at this wedding looks incredible, although we’re hardly surprised, given the location in central Tuscany. We could have filled an entire gallery with canapé photographs!
With Tong and Calvin’s celebration being so intimate, they were able to give their guests a really personal experience! “Since it was a small group, we wanted the wedding to be interactive, so we prepared a card for each guest with a personalised message.”
Tong describes their big day as, “the best and the shortest day of my life! It couldn’t have been better, we loved being surrounded by the people who are most important to us, but everything happened so fast!”
Tong’s advice for engaged couples is to focus on the atmosphere that you want to create on the day, rather than the small details. “Keep reminding yourself that the only thing matters is the ambiance,” she says. “Things like how the napkins are folded or whether the style of chairs match the candles don’t affect the day as much as you might imagine. As long as you’re with the right people in the right place, it will create the right atmosphere.”
How dreamy is this tablescape!? I love how the couple’s planner used pink, tapered candles to echo the villa’s facade, adding gold candle holders andsprigs of greenery to compliment those luxe floral arrangements!
After the wedding, Tong and Cavlin headed to Sicily for their honeymoon. “It’s a great choice in September,” they tell us, “and we had such a relaxing time after a year of preparing for the wedding.”
What an effortlessly gorgeous day! At this point, we’ve got to say a huge thank you to Tong and Calvin for sharing their destination wedding in Italy with us, and to Dall’k Photography for providing the beautiful imagery!
